Free Video Trimmer — Cut Video to the Exact Second
A useful cut starts with a clear decision about what the viewer should see and hear. Select the part of a recording that carries the point, then inspect both boundaries. The trim tool changes duration; it does not need to alter the framing, color, or size of the image unless you choose those additional options.
How to Trim a Video Online
Open a local clip, mark the range to retain, and export it as a new file. Use playback to check the selected section before processing. A clean start often includes a little space before the first spoken word, and a clean end lets the final action or sentence finish naturally.
Drag to Select the Range
Drag the start and end handles on the timeline, or type the times when the boundary must be precise. For example, keeping 10 through 25 seconds retains a 15-second section. Inspect the preview near both handles rather than assuming a thumbnail represents the exact frame where a cut will occur.
Split and Delete Unwanted Parts
To remove a pause or mistake in the middle, keep the ranges on either side and omit the unwanted section. Review the ordered segment list before export. The output joins the kept ranges without the discarded video or its audio; a gap in the original does not have to become a gap in the finished clip.
Export Without Re-encoding
Stream copy preserves compatible encoded media instead of decoding and encoding every frame again. That is useful when the source already suits the destination. It also means cut boundaries depend on the video’s keyframes. Use the displayed actual range, and switch to exact mode when a boundary must land between those keyframes.
Trim Large Videos Online
A large recording should not need a full cloud upload just to remove an unwanted beginning or end. Local access allows the editor to work from the file on your device. The operation, codec, and available working storage still matter, especially when a precise edit requires decoding and re-encoding a long section.
Over 10GB, No Upload Wall
The large-file workflow is designed around the real file rather than a small-file upload gate. A source above 10 GB can contain a short moment you want to keep. Select that moment and leave enough free storage for the result. File size alone does not describe the decoding or encoding work required.
Edit on Disk, Not in the Cloud
Keep the original on disk and avoid moving or deleting it while the editor is using it. A browser may keep a local project record without being able to restore access to the source after a restart. If permission or storage is lost, choose the original file again instead of expecting an invisible cloud copy.
Cut Video for Every Platform
A trimmed clip should have the right length for its purpose. A demonstration may need the entire action, while a social excerpt may need only the reveal and a little context. Do the duration edit before creating several delivery versions, so every version starts from the same intentional cut.
YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Reels
For a vertical post, identify the interesting moment first. Then use Crop or Resize to prepare the frame for the destination. Trimming does not automatically turn a landscape image into a vertical one, and a narrow crop may need another playback check if the subject moves across the original scene.
Set the Exact Length
Enter the intended start and end values when a clip needs a specific duration. Check the difference between them, then verify the output duration after processing. If the delivery requirement also names a resolution or shape, continue to Resize rather than trying to solve a pixel-size requirement with a time cut.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I trim a video online for free?
Choose a video, set its retained range, and select Trim video. The tool is included in the shared allowance of six successful processing tasks per browser each UTC day. A failed read, failed export, or cancelled job does not use a successful task. Downloading the same finished clip again does not count twice.
Is there a watermark or a file size limit?
The site adds no watermark to the trimmed result. There is no server-upload size gate for the local workflow, but the file’s encoding and the resources of the device can still limit processing. If a file cannot be read, an error is more useful than pretending it became a valid clip.
Does trimming reduce quality?
A compatible stream copy keeps the encoded frames without an additional quality loss from re-encoding, but follows keyframe boundaries. Exact trimming can require a new encode. Use the mode appropriate to the cut, retain the original, and compare a difficult passage such as small text or fast movement in the exported result.
Can I cut a video longer than 10GB?
The editor is intended to work from a large local recording, including sources above 10 GB, rather than uploading that entire recording to a server. Success still depends on codecs, memory, storage, and the chosen operation. Test a representative section on the actual device before committing to a particularly demanding long export.
Trim It, Then Do the Rest
A trim often leaves one more practical job: change the frame, add readable captions, or reduce the delivery size. Pass the actual trimmed result to the next tool so its shorter timeline becomes the new starting point. Keep a downloaded copy when this cut is a version you want to retain.
A Shorter Recording, With Its Meaning Intact
Imagine a one-minute demonstration with ten seconds of preparation, fifteen seconds of useful action, and a long pause afterward. Keep the useful 10–25 second range and play just before and after the selected boundaries. If a word begins a fraction earlier, move the start instead of accepting an abrupt sentence. If the action needs context, include a little of the setup. The shortest possible clip is not always the clearest one.
For a mistake in the middle, retain the first useful section and the useful section after the mistake. Put them in the intended order, then review the join with sound. An apparently clean visual cut can still interrupt a word or leave an awkward change in room noise. Use exact mode when the boundary matters more than preserving the original encoded stream, and keep a stream-copy version when its actual keyframe boundaries are suitable.
Review the Exported Result
Compare the source and result at their actual cut points. The beginning should contain the intended first image and sound, and the ending should stop after the intended final moment. If several segments were retained, verify each one appears once and in order. Check the total duration against the sum of the ranges, allowing for the chosen frame boundaries. Inspect a variable-frame-rate phone or screen recording for audio drift rather than only listening to its first few seconds. Finally, open the file outside the editor so the check covers the saved media rather than a player that is still displaying the source.
